Solomon’s Knot Shawl

Standard

Adapted from “Alp Natural Solomon’s Knot Shawl” written by Kt Baldassaro… I got tired of following the instruction because the Solomon’s Knot started to hurt my wrist, so I made it smaller. Less knots to make. And I changed the fringe.

Material:

Crochet hook – 4.0mm

Yarn – DK weight (approx 100 g)

Beads – 30 semi-precious tubular beads, 184 clear E-beads

SK: Solomon’s Knot – lengthen the loop on the hook to approx 1″ long, yarn over & draw the yarn through the elongated loop, insert your hook between the long loop & the stand from the yarn over, yarn over and draw the yarn through this space, then single crochet like normal

sc – single crochet

Instructions:

Body:

Ch 1, 31 SK, each knot approx 2″ long (make sure not to twist the chains of SKs)

Row 1: *2 SK, sc in next st* repeat 31 times, 1 SK, turn

Row 2: sc in next st, *2 SK, skip 1 SK, sc in next st* repeat 30 times, 1 SK, turn

Row 3 – 30: repeat row 2

Row 31: sc in next st, *2 SK, skip 1 SK, sc in next st – DO NOT CUT

Fringe:

Angle the shawl 45 degrees clockwise (if you’re left handed, it would be the opposite).

Side: *Ch 1, lengthen the loop approx 3.5″ (this is part of the fringe where you’re going to string the beads), take your crochet hook & insert into the same ch 1, sc in the same st, 3 sc along the SK, sc in next sc* repeat 29 times, ch 1, lengthen the loop approx 3.5″, take your crochet hook & insert into the same ch 1, sc in the same st.

Neckline: *6 sc along the SK, skip sc* repeat 30 times, 6 sc along the SK, sc in next st

Side: *Ch 1, lengthen the loop approx 3.5″, take your crochet hook & insert into the same ch 1, sc in the same st, 3 sc along SK, sc in next sc* repeat 31 times, fasten off

Weave in ends.

String on Beads:

Every other fringe is a sequence of E-bead, semi-precious, E-bead, 30 times.

The other fringe is 4 E-beads, 31 times.

Use a wire to string on the beads and then tie a knot at the end.

Slow Day

Standard

Oh, how I’m displease with you, Daylight Savings Time. I want my extra hour back!

This morning, the day started out slow. The hour was just slowly creeping by…

But after it got past noon and the day got warmer, I felt the need to get on my bicycle and ride around my workplace. I hopped on my bike and rode for 2 miles in less than 10 minutes. My awesome bike was such a HIT!

This is my awesome, tiny bike! Ultra portable, weighs 29 lbs, and it fits in the trunk of my subcompact vehicle.

It’s a TOKYO Citizen Bike 16″ 6-speed Folding Bike with Ultra-Portable Frame.

I, of course, have a another bicycle that’s for longer distances. It’s got 24″ wheels and… So not foldable.

Last week, I finished 2 shawls.

This shawl I finished in less than 10 hours. It’s a wedding gift to my best friend, she’s getting married in May. It’s got a simple but beautiful beaded edge. I used Patons Lace in color 33315 Sachet. It’s a very beautiful lace weight yarn that’s affordable.

The pattern is called “Festival Shawl” by Lyn Robinson.

Here’s the link:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/festival-shawl

The other shawl is my own design. It’s called “Triangular Mesh Shawl.” It took me 6 days to complete. I got bored making it and I thought it took FOREVER to gain length & width…

I am EXAGGERATING because it only took 32 rows to complete.

It is also beaded. The clear beads are along the increases and the edge of the shawl.

I’m planning to type this pattern up and post it on my blog. I just have to get to it. So if you’re interested, please be patient.

Also, last weekend I started 3 shawls… 2 lacy crocodile stitch shawls and 1 sidewalk shawl… I still have other projects on the side that I haven’t mention yet… Anyways, this is it for now…

Let’s go crochet some lace!

Sunday night….

Standard

Oh my gosh! I’m exhausted! My upper back is complaining, it’s telling me to get myself into bed! NOW!

Man, I was a busy girl, today!

I made “Rigatoni in Creamy Tomato Sauce” from All You Magazine.

Here’s the link:
http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/rigatoni-creamy-tomato-sauce-50400000115470/

This was what my version looked like. It was SO VERY TASTY!

After I finished eating, I sew a shoulder heat pad. I used 2 pieces of fabrics which are 100% cotton and muslin. I used beans to fill up the heat pad because it lasts longer than rice.

I made this shoulder heat pad for my boyfriend but my mom likes it so she got it instead. So next weekend, I have to make another one. Does my projects ever end? … NEVER!

Here’s a picture of it being used. Put it in the microwave for about a minute and it comes out hot! I can heat it up to 2 minutes but it’ll be too hot and burns my skin.

Then I put 3 of my yoga mats into the washer on delicate cycle…

My mats got so slick, I keep slipping, so I need to wash the sweat off. I WAS NOT going to clean my mats with my own two hands. It’ll take freaking forever! So into the washer it went.

… Then into the dryer on the lowest setting.

Hanging it and letting it drip-dry will take all day to dry because I need to use it tomorrow.

This is not the first time I’ve done it nor will it be the last time. It’s not recommended to wash and dry my yoga mats like that, but I’m doing it.

Lastly, I finished the pink hat that I started on early this morning. No picture… I’m too tired.

Well, that’s it! Have a good night and sleep tight!

It’s a busy weekend!

Friday night, I made the very best bruschetta ever!

Here’s the link to the recipe:
http://www.food.com/recipe/the-real-italian-bruschetta-40112

It was so good! I love it! The taste was very strong because of the red wine vinegar and olive oil but I still love it. It is the best tasting bruschetta ever!

I ate bruschetta while watching “Dream House.” It was a very relaxing night.

All day Saturday, I worked on my CGOA Masters Program, I weaved in ends and made sure all the swatches are made correctly and answered all the questions to the best of my ability. I just had to redo 3 swatches because I misread the directions, I did an increase where there wasn’t suppose to be an increase, I added an extra chain here and there, and whatnot. Those swatches were made while I was watching a movie and crocheting at the same time, apparently I was mesmerized by the movie but I don’t remember what the movie was about or what was the title.

Anyways, I am DONE! Hallelujah! Now I just have to go to the Crochet Masters Study Group, I just need someone to look over my answers. I want to make sure that I answered the questions thoroughly and that it makes sense. Sometimes when I write something, it makes sense to me but it doesn’t makes sense to another person. That being said… I AM STILL DONE!

Here’s a picture that really doesn’t show much of anything.

So, I promise to upload pictures of my current projects. Here they are! YAY!

I started this project on October 30th, 2011. The pattern is called “Molly” by Susan Mills. The scarf pattern size is 4″ wide by 72″ long but my current scarf size is 6.5″ wide by 62″. I knit with a loose hand so my width is wider than the designer’s width. Just so you know, gauge was not important in this pattern which makes it OKAY.

Here’s a link:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/molly-11

The yarn I use is Universal Yarn Classic Worsted LP in color 3311 Water. It’s a acrylic-wool blend yarn. As you can see it’s a self-striping yarn and I have 1 ball left to knit which is in the picture, I want it to be 72″ long soon.

I keep putting this project off because I just had to crochet. So hopefully I’ll be done before next winter to wear it. I imagine the scarf wrap around my neck and be all cozy.

Here’s a close up of my stitches.

Here’s another project. I am making a beaded mesh triangular shawl. This is my pattern, I’m using Deborah Norville Collections Serenity Garden Yarn in color DN800-08 Sea. I started this project this morning.

Notice my cute penguin yarn plastic tote. Isn’t it AWESOME?!

Here’s a close up.

Another project that I started this morning. This pattern is called “Angela’s Flower Mesh Beret” by Nhung Tran. I’m using Red Heart Softspun Baby Yarn in color 722 Light Pink.

Here’s the link:

Here’s a close up. I am planning to get this cap done today.

I, of course, have other projects that I haven’t taken pictures of yet. So this will be it for now.

I hope you guys enjoy! Now, I have to go read some directions on how to use WordPress… This is my first blog, you know.

All swatches are completed!

Standard

I am feeling AWESOME! I just finished my last swatch! Now… I have 48 swatches to weave in ends and check and recheck to make sure that I followed the directions correctly. I want to turn in my profolio one time and pass. JUST LIKE THAT!

NOW, I can begin to work on my other projects! I can’t wait until the weekend so that I have time to take some pictures of my current projects and upload them onto my blog… And pictures of my PROFOLIO!

That reminds me… I have to check my schedule to incorporate some yoga classes. Every season the hours change, some classes get drop, some classes get moved, and whatnot.

_

Oh my gosh! Tomorrow is going to be like 70 degrees! I’m going to put my bike in the trunk of my car, so that I can bike to the YMCA during lunch hour with my co-worker/ friend/ yogini – partner! MAGNIFICENT!

CGOA Masters Program

Standard

I started the CGOA (Crochet Guild of America) Master Program on January 30th, 2012. I put it off for about 3 weeks because I was hit by the awesome lazy bug. Go figure!

I didn’t want to put it off any longer, so I began again on February 21st, 2012. My goal is to have all 48 crochet swatches and 13 questions finish by mid-March or earlier (preferably).

I am currently on swatch 32. I am getting closer to the end!

… And then it’s going to be a new beginning…
